Top 10 Facts About Carrie Jeanette

Annyeong, Carrie’s Crew! How’s your day? This is the first time for me to write a blog. I have a long period of holiday before entering my college life. One of my hobbies is writing, so I want to use my time to increase my journalistic skills by writing in this blog! Honestly, I’m not a professional writer and my writings are not perfect. I still need to learn a lot to make a good piece of writing. Therefore, I’d be so thankful if Carrie’s Crew could give suggestions to improve the quality of my work.

Anyway, I must introduce myself, so that nobody won’t label me as ‘a mysterious writer.’ And Carrie’s Crew will be able to get to know me more. Here are 10 facts about the writer of Carrie’s Chronicles, Carrie Jeanette!

1.     My full name is Carrie Jeanette Wang

My mom named me ‘Carrie’ because she was a huge fan of Carrie Underwood. She liked that name because she wanted me to be a person who cares about other people, has empathy towards others, and shows kindness. ‘Jeanette’ is my middle name, given by my father. I don’t know why he gave me that name. However, I like that name, it is such a sweet and beautiful word. Last but not least, ‘Wang’ is my family name.

2.     I have four hobbies

a.     Writing poetry

This is my new hobby. It all starts with my assignment from the journalistic extracurricular at school. My teacher asked me to write a poem about freedom. At first, I thought that this was such a boring assignment. However, when I started to hold my pen and write the first line that came from my thoughts, I found that it was so exciting when I played with words and conjunctions to make one whole poem. I tried to participate in a couple of poetry competitions and thank God, I won them all. When I have leisure time, I try to pour all of my emotions through words in my personal diary, either in Bahasa Indonesia or in English.

b.     Listening to music

Honestly, music is a crucial element in my life and I’m very grateful that I’m able to listen to all of my favorite music on Spotify. Every day, I listen to the music. When I wake up in the morning, I listen to instrumental music which can help me to begin my daily routine. Even when I do my assignments, I listen to K-pop music. Except when I do calculations that need more concentration and focus, I usually listen to Mozart's music. I’m not a huge fan of mellow kinds of music because it brings me down. Usually, I do this hobby through my favorite earphones. This is very practical because I can bring it whenever and wherever I want.

c.     Video editing

I’m a huge fan of the South Korean boyband ENHYPEN, and I have a special TikTok account to upload their edits. I started this hobby in August 2023. Through 54 videos that I’ve uploaded, I gained more than 3k followers and 275k likes. The applications that I use when I want to make content are Pinterest, YouTube, and CapCut. Every time I find a funny clip of ENHYPEN on YouTube and stunning pics of them on Pinterest, I always edit it into new content, either for POV videos or compilation clips. I spent two hours making a piece of content and I tried to gain more followers and views through every video that I made.

d.      Painting

My first hobby since I was a kid is painting. In the kindergarten, I liked to decorate my walls with my paintings. Therefore, my parents knew that they had to buy a drawing book for their daughter. I also loved to make simple comics. Every week, my mom submitted my artwork to the Gramedia because, at that time, a children's work acceptance event was held for several periods. I participated in a drawing extracurricular during my whole life when I was in elementary school. I took the branch of the fine arts as my cultural arts lesson in both junior and senior high school. My favorite part of the lesson was when my teacher gave me an assignment to paint on a canvas. Although I love to paint all painting genres, my favorite genre is naturalism.

3.       Belenggu Merah Muda is my favorite book

Again, I found my favorite book through my assignments at school. I had to make a retention about a fiction novel which I borrowed from my school’s library. While I was searching for the novel, my eyes were distracted by a pink-covered novel with a big picture of a wooden hammer in the middle. The novel’s title is ‘Belenggu Merah Muda.’ It is a novel that describes the complexity of the forbidden love relationship between Larasati and Arganta Yuda. Larasati, as the main character, tries to protect Arga from a corruption case that could destroy his career, until he ends up going to prison. This story also explores the theme of hedonism in metropolitan society, which significantly influences the lives of the characters. I love to read this book because the writer describes the plot in an easy-to-understand way while emphasizing the character’s uniqueness. I also realized that the moral story is essential for my life because it taught me that love shouldn't break us down.

4.      I can speak both Bahasa Indonesia and English fluently

I’m from Jakarta and Bahasa Indonesia is my first language. I improved my English skills through my hobby of writing essays in English, native speakers that engage me to speak in English, and English movies I watched. However, my English skills aren’t as perfect as a native speaker, and I still have to improve them. My English subject grade at school isn’t always A+. Sometimes, I still misinterpret some words in English and take my first language accent when speaking in English. To add more details, I can speak Mandarin and Korean but not as fluently as Indonesian and English. I can write some simple Mandarin strokes because I've studied Mandarin for nine years. Regarding Korean, I can read Hangul because I have been in a Korean extracurricular for a year. I also understood some Korean words from the K-dramas I watched and the K-pop music I listened to.

5.      I have traveled to eight cities in Indonesia and six countries abroad

Bali, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Bogor, Semarang, Batam, Bukit Tinggi, and Padang are the cities that I have visited during my school holiday period. Between them, I have traveled abroad to six countries in the world, such as Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand. My favorite destination among them all is Sydney. That city was beautiful, you could see pretty panoramic views from every corner. I could easily find non-spicy food because I don’t like to eat spicy food. All of them were delicious, especially for the fish and chips which I ate near Bondi Beach. Most of the people were friendly and humble every time they communicated with others. I’m very grateful that in two months, I’ll go back to Australia, study biotechnology, and pursue my dreams. If I have time, I’ll visit Sydney and try to explore new places that I’ve never been to.

6.     Milo is my only pet

I have a cute domestic shorthair cat named Milo. He has a combination of white, orange, and dark brown color on his soft fur. I didn’t buy this cat in the pet shop, I adopted him. I raised him as a pet exactly on my grandma’s birthday on 28th February 2023 and I set that day as his birthday. He is nice and shy. Every day, me and my grandma feed him with rice and his favorite cat food three times. He is the type of cat who is afraid of eating food from other people who are not his master. As I’ve mentioned before, he is shy. Whenever I feel sad, he knows my emotions and tries to cheer me up with his fur. He is my best friend at home, and I always feel empty when I’m not at home. I can’t hear his purring voice which makes me feel lonely.

7.      My favorite food is Shiromaru Motoaji ramen

That Japanese noodles always increase my serotonin hormone. Every time I visit my favorite ramen restaurant namely Ippudo, I always order Shiromaru Motoaji ramen. There's something incredibly comforting about a warm bowl of ramen, especially the rich flavors of the broth and the perfectly cooked noodles. It's my go-to comfort food. When I traveled abroad, I wanted to try ramen and compare the taste of every ramen restaurant. Until now, I’ve never found ramen that is more delicious than Shiromaru Motoaji in Ippudo. What is excessive is not good. Even though ramen is my favorite food, I realized that it is not the healthiest dish and I need to set limits for eating that Japanese food to maintain my body health.

8.      I'm obsessed with the ‘Still Monster’ song by ENHYPEN

I’m an ENHYPEN fan namely Engene and I love all ENHYPEN songs. When they released the ‘ORANGE BLOOD’ album, I listened to all their new songs including ‘Still Monster.’ This song has a deep and emotional theme, telling the story of the struggle against the dark side of oneself. In the lyrics, there is an element of internal struggle that describes the feeling of being trapped in a difficult situation, where a person tries to accept and reconcile with the dark side or monster within themselves. As I heard the wonderful melody and strong musical arrangement, this song kept ringing in my head. Plus, the first member who sang this song is my bias which is Heeseung. I was amazed by his melodious voice which melts my heart.

9.      My dream is to become a successful scientist

Since I was young, I always dreamed of becoming a scientist. I was very curious about how things worked and loved reading about different scientific topics like stars, plants, and physics. I enjoyed doing small experiments at home too. The idea of discovering something new or solving a difficult problem was very exciting to me. I liked the thought of wearing a lab coat and doing important experiments that could help us understand the world better. I realize that Indonesia is a rich country that has a plethora of natural resources. When I become a successful scientist in the future, I’ll improve the world’s welfare, especially in the field of food through the knowledge I have gained in the field of biotechnology. To achieve my dream, all I have to do now is study hard and get satisfactory grades.

10.  My personality type is the dependable realist (ISTJ)

I have the ISTJ (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judgment) personality type which is characterized by a quiet and practical nature, with a strong focus on facts and details. I recognize my personality as an ISTJ to be reliable and responsible, excelling in a structured environment where I can complete tasks methodically and follow assigned procedures. I prioritize logic and objective analysis in decision-making, often valuing tradition and stability. Although I am reliable and loyal, I’m sometimes against change and may struggle with flexibility and emotional judgment. I am often seen as the backbone of my community, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Despite my preference for order, I’m capable of great dedication and hard work when committed to a goal. Overall, I am known for my thoroughness, practicality, and commitment to tasks.
